Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about PredictVS.
Playing
What is PredictVS?
PredictVS is a free prediction contest platform for sports fans across the US and Canada. Browse the lobby, join a contest, and choose between filling out a Prop Sheet before the game or making Live Picks as the action unfolds. Earn points based on real betting odds, climb contest standings, and prove your sports knowledge — all without spending a dime.
Is PredictVS free?
Yes, PredictVS is completely free. There are no subscriptions, no deposits, and no hidden fees. Just sign up and start making predictions.
Is this real gambling?
No. PredictVS is not a gambling platform. All points earned have no monetary value and cannot be exchanged for real money or prizes. We use real betting odds to make scoring more interesting, but no real money is involved at any point.
What's the difference between Prop Sheet and Live Picks?
Prop Sheet is a pre-game experience — you fill out a full sheet of prediction questions (game outcome, totals, player props, and more) before the game starts and lock them all in at once. Live Picks let you make predictions round-by-round as the game unfolds, with new questions dropping every period, quarter, or half. You can play one or both modes.
How does scoring work?
Points are awarded for correct predictions based on the real betting odds at the time of your pick. Underdogs are worth more points — a bold correct pick on a +300 underdog earns significantly more than picking a heavy favorite. This rewards both knowledge and conviction.
What sports and teams are covered?
We cover NHL, NBA, MLB, NFL, and MLS — every team across the US and Canada. Follow your favorite teams and join contests for any game on the schedule.
How do contests work?
Browse the contest lobby to find open Prop Sheet and Live Picks contests, or create your own: public (listed in the Lobby), unlisted (anyone with the link) or private (invite code only). Each contest has its own leaderboard so you can compete head-to-head within your group across any sport, all season long. Contest creators choose the questions, can add their own, and manage members and settings.
What is an Elo rating?
Elo is a skill-based rating system (used in chess and competitive gaming) that adjusts based on your prediction accuracy relative to other players. Beat higher-rated players and your Elo rises faster. It provides a more nuanced measure of skill than simple point totals.
What is My Teams?
My Teams is the list of teams you follow, picked at signup and editable any time in your profile. The My Teams filter in the lobby puts games and contests for those teams first, and every team has a page with its upcoming games and open sheets. Following a team is free and separate from joining a contest.
How do I get started?
Sign up for a free account, browse the contest lobby, and join a contest that catches your eye. Fill out a Prop Sheet before puck drop or jump into a Live Picks contest during the game. Submit your picks and your points and standings update automatically as games are resolved.
What is a prop sheet?
A prop sheet is a pre-game prediction form that includes multiple questions about an upcoming game — who will win, total score, player props, and more. You fill out all your predictions before the game starts and lock them in at once. Points are calculated based on real betting odds, so underdog picks earn more. Prop sheets are available for every game on PredictVS.
Can I use PredictVS for an office pool?
Yes! PredictVS is perfect for office pools. Create a contest, make it unlisted (anyone with the link can join) or private (invite code), share the link with coworkers, and everyone fills out the sheet in the app before each game locks. The leaderboard updates automatically — no spreadsheets, no money collection. It works for weekly, monthly, or season-long pools across NHL, NBA, MLB, NFL, MLS, UFC, golf and tennis, and there is a printable version of every sheet for the watch party.
Creating your own contest
How do I create my own contest?
Sign up, open Contests and click "Create a contest". Step 1: name it and choose the format — Prop Sheet (fill a sheet before each game), Live Picks (pick during the game), or a playoff series, bracket or playoff run. Step 2: choose the scope — one sport or several, specific teams, a date range, and optionally the season phase and the markets you want. Step 3: pick the visibility (public, unlisted or private), decide whether power picks are on, and create. It takes about two minutes, and the contest page is ready to share immediately.
Can I choose the questions on the sheet, or write my own?
Both. Every game in your contest already has a sheet of up to 20 questions built from real sportsbook lines — winner, spread, totals, period results and player props. On the contest's Sheet tab, owners and admins pick exactly which questions count (or use a preset such as "Curated 20" or "Winners only"). You can also write up to 25 questions of your own with two to ten answer options and the odds you choose; you grade those yourself after the event, and anything still ungraded a week after the lock is voided so standings never get stuck. The auto-generated questions grade themselves from the box score.
What is the difference between public, unlisted and private contests?
Public contests are listed in the Lobby, on the sport and team pages and in search, so anyone can find and join them. Unlisted contests are not listed anywhere, but anyone with the link can view and join — the easiest option for a group chat or an office. Private contests require the eight-character invite code, and only members can see them. You choose when you create the contest and can change it later from the contest's Edit settings.
How do people join my contest?
Share the contest link from the invite panel on the contest page (there are one-tap buttons for WhatsApp and text messages). For a public or unlisted contest the link is all they need; for a private contest they enter the invite code. Everyone plays on their phone or laptop, picks lock at each game's start, and nobody sees anyone else's picks until then. Public and unlisted contests also have a standings page you can share with people who have not joined.
Can I print the sheet for a watch party?
Yes. Every contest has a Print view of its sheet — every question with a checkbox per answer, points, a name line and a tiebreaker — and each sport page has a free printable of this week's sheet. Print it for the room, then enter the picks in the app afterwards so the scoring still happens automatically.
Which sports can I create a contest for?
NFL, NBA, NHL, MLB and MLS, the other major soccer leagues (Premier League, La Liga, Bundesliga, Serie A, Ligue 1, Champions League), college football and basketball, UFC cards, PGA golf tournaments and ATP/WTA tennis. Team sports get a sheet per game; UFC gets a sheet per card, golf per tournament and tennis per match.
What can I manage as a contest owner?
The name, description, member limit, visibility and power-picks setting; the sheet (which questions count, plus your own questions and their grading); and the members — remove someone, promote a co-admin, or transfer ownership. Owners and admins also get the Print view, the invite panel and a Standings link to share. Points and standings are computed automatically, so there is nothing to tally by hand.
